2009Year Richard Moe, the president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is stepping down after 17 years in the post, the trust announced on Tuesday. Mr. Moe, 72, said he would stay on until a successor was named, which he expects will be by spring. During his tenure, the trust helped prevent Disney from building a theme park in the historic Northern Piedmont region of Virginia
championed the restoration of Lincoln’s cottage in Washington; encouraged the purchase at auction of the threatened Farnsworth House by Mies van der Rohe in Plano, Ill.; and focused on preserving the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. “I think we broadened the mission here significantly,” Mr. Moe said in a telephone interview, adding, “Preservation is much more on the American agenda than it was several decades ago.”.
